Jabberwocky Market, a festival of pop-up theatre events, returns to Darlington for spring 2017 in a variety of locations.

On 24 March at 2:30 and on 25 at 7:30, Theatre Ad Infinitum presents Bucket List, the story of one Mexican woman’s fight for justice, in the Liddiard Theatre at Polam Hall School.

When her mother is murdered for protesting against corporate and governmental corruption, Milagros finds herself with only a bloodstained list of those responsible. Determined to make them pay, she embarks on a passionate quest for justice, no matter the cost.

On 22 April at 6PM and 8PM, Be Premiere Hair in Blackwellgate turns into In Good Hands, a rural Irish hair salon (and the name of Catherine Ireton’s play) where hairdresser Julie (Ireton) makes them feel very much at home while Lisa (Grace Kiely) is getting her hair done for a big night out. Over the next 60 minutes—the time it takes for a wash, cut and blow-dry—the small dramas of the lives of Lisa and others of Ballybracken unfold. Through a series of original songs and involving the audience to help tell the story, In Good Hands explores the important things we tell complete strangers given the opportunity.

In the Dolphin Centre at 10AM, 11:30 and 2PM from 3 to 5 May, Neverland, inspired by J M Barrie’s Peter Pan, is an immersive new show for children aged 1 to 3 which uses 360° video projections, original music and performance to tell the story of a child’s imagination. It encourages play and creativity between children and their grown-ups and each ticket admits one adult and one child.

On 22, 23 and 25 May at 8PM, Not Too Tame Theatre presents Early Doors at the Hole in the Wall in Horsemarket. It’s the first night under new management and a brother and sister open up the family pub for the first time after it’s been left to them by their mum. The audience is invited to nestle amongst the regulars as they find their voices through love, loss, laughter and a pub quiz. It’s a celebration of community spirit and pub culture, an hour-long, site-specific experience.
