Shobana Jeyasingh’s 2012 work TooMortal is being screened as part of the company’s SJD Shorts series on Monday 22 June at 7PM.
This work sees six women dressed in flame red dancing within the pews of a historic church. The story they weave moves between power and quiet reflection. Are they charting a journey from cradle to grave? Or cast adrift on a wooden sea? The soundtrack by Cassiel remixes James MacMillan’s Tenebrae Responsories to create an atmosphere of calm solemnity infused with tense, sometimes ominous, flavours.
Jeyasingh will introduce the work in conversation with Sanjoy Roy. It will be broadcast live on the company’s Facebook page and then be available for a further seven days.
