“Huge challenge”: the cast of Minority Report

Jodie McNee will take the lead role in the world première of David Haig’s adaptation of Philip K Dick’s novella Minority Report, previously a sci-fi blockbuster starring Tom Cruise and directed by Steven Spielberg.

In this production, the story is set in 2050 and Cruise’s character has been changed into female neuroscientist Julia. She is head of a special police unit responsible for solving crimes before they happen. She is in a race to find out why she has been framed for a crime she has not committed.

McNee played primary schoolteacher Sarah in Michael Wynne’s Cuckoo in 2023 and fisherwoman Jo in Anatomy of a Suicide by Alice Birch in 2017, both at London’s Royal Court Theatre.

The rest of the cast includes Nick Fletcher as George, Roseanna Frascona as Ana, Nicholas Rowe as Ralph and Tanvi Virmani as David. Chrissy Brooke, Xenoa Campbell-Ledgister, Ricardo Castro and Danny Collins will play multiple roles.

Production designer is Jon Bausor, video designer is Tal Rosner and Jessica Hung Han Yun is lighting designer. Composer and sound designer is Nicola T Chang, movement director is Lucy Hind and Richard Pinner is illusions designer. Casting director is Lotte Hines CDG.

Minority Report is a Nottingham Playhouse, Birmingham Rep and Lyric Hammersmith Theatre production in association with Simon Friend Entertainment, producers of Lolita Chakrabarti’s adaptation of Yann Martel’s novel Life of Pi. Max Webster, who directed Life of Pi on Broadway as well as on its UK tour, will direct Minority Report.

Webster said, “I’m so thrilled we have this extraordinary cast to bring David Haig’s play to life. I can’t wait to start rehearsing with them in what promises to be a huge challenge of acting, technical staging and imagination.”

Minority Report will run at Nottingham Playhouse from Friday 16 February until Saturday 9 March. It then transfers to Birmingham Rep from Friday 22 March until Saturday 6 April and Lyric Hammersmith Theatre from Friday 19 April until Saturday 18 May.
