The Society of London Theatre's Kids Week, this year celebrating its 15th birthday, sold a record 42,232 tickets in the first 24 hours that they went on sale this week.
As we have previously reported, this year's event will offer tickets for 38 London shows in August and will last for the whole month for the first time.
Edwin Shaw, theatre consultant at See Tickets, who has worked in the West End for over 50 years, said, “I am thrilled and delighted that Kids Week has got off to such a terrific start. In my memory, no other theatre promotion has sold as many tickets in a 24 hour period, so this is really very remarkable.”
This year's event was launched on Monday 11 July with a special performance before an invited audience of 1,000 children from 33 London schools hosted by Shrek star Richard Blackwood and featuring tasters of shows such as Horrible Histories, Shrek The Musical, Spamalot, The Tiger Who Came To Tea and Thriller Live.
