Ivan Vasiliev rehearses for ENB's Le Jeune Homme et la Mort

Something for your 2014 diary: a not-to-be-missed showcase and celebration of the male dancer, Kings of the Dance, makes its UK debut at the London Coliseum, Wednesday 19 – Saturday 22 March 2014.

The superb line-up, at present, is American Ballet Theatre's stars Marcelo Gomes and Ivan Vasiliev (formerly of Moscow's Bolshoi and St Petersburg's Mikhailovsky Ballet Companies), Denis Matvienko of the Mariinsky Ballet, Leonid Sarafanov of the Mikhailovsky Ballet and Roberto Bolle from Teatro alla Scala.

Performed to a specially recorded score, the programme promises seven diverse pieces from Roland Petit, Patrick De Bana, Nacho Duato, Marco Goecke, Marcelo Gomes, and Massimiliano Volpini.

Roberto Bolle and Ivan Vasiliev will perform Roland Petit's tragic 1946 ballet Le Jeune Homme et la Mort, which will also feature special guest artist Svetlana Lunkina from the Bolshoi Ballet. Vasiliev stunned the Coliseum audience with his gravity-defying performance as le jeune homme in 2011. Roberto Bolle will also appear in Massimiliano Volpini's Prototype, and Ivan Vasiliev in Patrick de Bana's Labyrinth of Solitude.

Denis Matvienko and Marcelo Gomes will dance Morel et Saint-Loup from Roland Petit's 1974 ballet Proust; Leonid Sarafanov Marco Goecke's Tue; Marcelo Gomes, Leonid Sarafanov, and Denis Matvienko Nacho Duato's 1997 Remanso, and all five male dancers will appear in the London première of KO’d, choreography by Marcelo Gomes and music by Guillaume Côté.
