Nottingham Playhouse’s show The Kite Runner which received its UK première at the East Midlands theatre in 2013 is to open on Broadway in summer 2022.
The production was directed by Giles Croft, then artistic director of the Playhouse, and played to more than 20,000 people in Nottingham. It toured the UK and had two seasons in London’s West End where it played to more than 100,000 people.
Nottingham Playhouse chief executive Stephanie Sirr said, “we’re delighted that one of our most popular productions is finally being seen on Broadway. It’s a testament to many years work.”
The Kite Runner is based on Khaled Hosseini’s best-selling novel and was adapted by Matthew Spangler. Originally produced by Nottingham Playhouse and Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse, the show will begin its run on Broadway on 6 July, with the opening night on 21 July, and will run until 30 October. Croft will again direct.
The play is a “haunting tale of friendship spanning cultures and continents that follows one man’s journey to confront his past and find redemption”.
