Derby Theatre has revealed the cast of its Christmas production, Mike Kenny’s The Little Mermaid, which is to “make a splash with audiences of all ages”.

The Little Mermaid will feature two teams of actors who will perform on alternate days. The cast includes Oliver Ashworth who played Bob Cratchit in Neil Duffield’s adaptation of Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol at Derby Theatre in 2019, Joelle Brabban who took the roles of Emilie and Baby Joey in Michael Morpurgo’s War Horse for the National Theatre, April Nerissa Hudson who appeared in Wanted, celebrating women’s history month for Gazebo Theatre’s national tour, and Jordan Laidley who was Shere Khan in Jelly Fish Theatre’s modern retelling of Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book.

Derby Theatre artistic director Sarah Brigham directs. Designer is Ali Allen, lighting design is by Jamie Vella and sounds are designed and composed by Ivan Stott.

The Little Mermaid replaces the original production of Aladdin and will run from Saturday 5 December until Saturday 2 January 2021. It will mark the reopening of the theatre for performances. Safety measures include 'socially distanced' seating and a reduced capacity.
