Digital theatre creators imitating the dog will première a new production of Macbeth in the New Year.

Fusing live action with video technology, it will open at CAST, Doncaster February 21–22 and tour till May 6.

This retelling of Macbeth becomes a neon noir thriller where Shakespeare’s original language collides with new scenes, visuals and intensity.

Andrew Quick, co-director and artistic director of imitating the dog said, “Shakespeare’s exploration of power, ambition, violence, and love seems so relevant today. We’re bringing a unique take to the original, while being true to the spirit of all those amazing words and scenes. It will be a Macbeth as you’ve never seen before—but it’s still Shakespeare.”

His company’s work fuses live performance with digital technology. Past productions have included Hotel Methuselah, A Farewell to Arms, Heart of Darkness, Night of The Living Dead™—Remix, Dr Blood’s Old Travelling Show and most recently Dracula: The Untold Story.

Earlier this year, the company staged Cinema Inferno for the Parisian haute couture house Maison Margiela for its 2022 collection.

Macbeth will tour to Harrogate Theatre (February 24–25); The Dukes, Lancaster (February 28–March 4); The Lowry, Salford Quays (March 8–11); Gala, Durham (March 16–17); Mercury Theatre Colchester (April 18–19); Liverpool Playhouse (April 25–29) and Lawrence Batley Theatre, Huddersfield (May 3–6). The production will also be touring Switzerland March 21–25.
