This year's MANIPULATE Festival of international visual theatre, puppetry and animated film sees a month of online screenings starting 21 January.

Whilst some work was created for film, other participating artists, who were to have performed live at Edinburgh's Summerhall, have adapted their work for film or digital presentation for this reimagined festival which balances themes of playfulness and fun against those of connection and isolation.

This year also sees a celebration of womxn in animation, Animated Womxn. The work of creatives from Brazil, Czech Republic, England, Ireland, Scotland, South Africa and the USA is presented in a showcase of twelve animated shorts made by and for womxn and a panel discussion with five of its animators.

This fourteenth iteration has taken on a hybrid format and alongside the streamed programme residents in and around Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow can experience a kinetic sculpture outdoor installation.

Restless Worlds, which has been commissioned for the Festival, combines the work of puppeteers, sculptors and animators to present stories using miniature moving sculptures and audio files accessed via mobile devices.

MANIPULATE Festival programme is available online. Events run from 21 January to 21 February.
