MGCfutures Bursary Programme

The seventh MGCfutures Bursary Programme opened for applications this week.

Established by the Artistic Director of MGC, Michael Grandage, the programme is designed to support practitioners as they move a step up in their career.

The value of a bursary can reach £5,000 and is available across the disciplines involved in making live performance.

This year, a new bursary has been created with Cardiff’s The Other Room in the form of a 12-month placement in the newly created role of in-house technical and production manager. Supported by designer Christopher Oram and known as the Stephanie Arditti Bursary, in memory of award-winning costume supervisor Stephanie Arditti, it is targeted at those following a career in costuming in theatre such as tailoring, cutting, beading and embroidery and to related fields such as wigs, millinery or shoes.

Michael Grandage said, “to date, MGCfutures has meaningfully helped 126 people develop their chosen career within the theatre. As we enter our seventh year, it is my hope that we continue to build on this success and wherever possible, help change people’s lives for the better by supporting them at a crucial moment in their development.”

Bursary recipients are selected by an industry panel that includes Michael Grandage.

MGCfutures Bursaries is a charity funded by the company and from donations. The Theatre Community Fund is supporting the scheme for the final year of a 3-year agreement.

The deadline for sending applications is 12PM on 31 August. Applications are welcome from across the UK; bursaries are not available for funding training or productions.
