Adapted from the book by Jill Tomlinson, The Owl who was Afraid of the Dark flies into Derby Theatre’s Studio from Monday until Monday 24 December.

The Tiger who Came to Tea, based on the picture book written and illustrated by Judith Kerr and adapted for the stage with songs and lyrics by David Wood, is a tasty offering in the studio at Leicester’s Curve from Tuesday until Saturday 5 January.

A “playful interactive adventure” that’s “ideal for children”, Humbug! will be performed in Northampton Royal and Derngate’s Underground venue from Tuesday until Sunday 13 January.

East Midlands touring company New Perspectives takes Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol to Ecton Village Hall, Wellingborough, Northamptonshire on Wednesday, South Luffenham Village Hall, Rutland on Thursday, Dixie Grammar School, Market Bosworth, Leicestershire on Friday, Swayfield Village Hall, Lincolnshire on Saturday, and North and South Wheatley Village Hall, north Nottinghamshire on Sunday.

“Charles Dickens meets Roald Dahl via Horrible Histories” in Grisly Tales from Tumblewater at The Core at Corby Cube, Northamptonshire from Wednesday until Sunday.

Developed by Coventry-based company Highly Sprung, Child of Terror “fuses the energy of local young people with the experience of professional performers to tell a story of terrorism, relevant to and influenced by the views of a new generation” at The Drum, Birmingham on Thursday.

Performers and musicians from the Jane Packman Company take audiences on a ride through memories, events and moments that shaped the past year in The Wake at mac, Birmingham from Thursday until Saturday.
