Bolton Octagon’s artistic director David Thacker directs another classic American Drama, Long Day’s Journey Into Night by Eugene O’Neill, for the venue’s second production of the autumn.

O'Neill shares the pain, anguish and guilt faced by his own family, in his most moving and compelling drama.

The cast playing the Tyrone family have been through-cast from An Inspector Calls, a conscious choice that Thacker made when he first decided to pair the first two plays of the 2013-14 Season.

He said: “Long Day’s Journey Into Night is a play that follows similar themes, despite obvious differences in terms of geography and setting. Both plays were written in the early 1940s and set in 1912.

"Both involve disintegrating families who need to understand the implications of their actions and accept their responsibilities.”
