Awakening

National Dance Company Wales will be touring across Wales and England this Spring with a new tour, Awakening, featuring four dance pieces, three of which will be performed at each venue, including the UK Theatre Award nomination for Achievement in Dance, Tundra, as well as two new pieces by resident choreographer Caroline Finn and Fernando Melo.

Afterimage, by Brazilian choreographer Fernando Melo, is "a journey of fleeting images; of appearance and disappearance." In Revellers’ Mass, choreographed by Caroline Finn and inspired by iconic paintings and historical events, an unlikely group gathers for a dinner party, where convictions, tradition and social etiquette are put to the test in an unexpected evening of revelry. Tundra, choreographed by Marcos Morau, "tears pages from the history books on Russian folk dance, the USSR and revolution" and is inspired by art and cinema.

The tour will also include its family friendly interactive workshop / performance experience Discover Dance for children aged 7 to 12 years.

The 11-venue tour will open at the Riverfront in Newport on St David's Day before continuing to London, Cardiff, Swansea, Blackpool, Huddersfield, Shrewsbury, Mold, Bangor, Newtown and Aberystwyth.
