Mr Sole Abode - one night at the Connaught Theatre

Having toured nationally some eight years ago, Mr Sole Abode has been redeveloped by its original creator, Leo c, and plays one night at the Connaught Theatre, Worthing, later this month.

Collaborators on the original production were the writer/director Benji Reid and surrealist puppet company Faulty Optic. Now Kay and his company, Unfinished Business, are working with south east audience development and touring consortium, house, award-winning theatre maker Stuart Bowden as director and musician Daniel Marcus Clark.

Azuro, the protagonist in Ben Okri’s award-winning novel The Famished Road was the inspiration for Sole, a world-renowned architect, master chef and outlandish inventor who, unable to cope with contemporary urban living, lives in a fridge under a bridge.

Using conversational text with touching humour, subtle physicality, clowning and a live score played on a collection of handmade junk metal instruments with Daniel Marcus Clark, Kay offers an alternative perspective on homelessness, mental health, ecology and home cooking.

Mr Sole Abode plays Connaught Studio Theatre, Union Place, Worthing on 21 February.
