Last year, British Youth Music Theatre launched an award in memory of musical theatre director Vernon Mound.
The award winners receive six months of mentoring and see their work produced by the company and staged at a regional venue.
Rachel Bellman and Elizabeth Charlesworth are the winners for this, the awards' first year. Their musical The Dickens Girls is based on the true story of the young women who were taken into Charles Dickens and Angela Burdett-Coutts's house for fallen women and given the chance to turn their lives around
The Dickens Girls will run at New Wolsey Theatre Ipswich.
