Theatre Fest West Writer’s Prize

Salisbury Playhouse is inviting writers based in or who have a connection with the South West to submit a new piece of writing for consideration for the inaugural Theatre Fest West Writer’s Prize.

Eligible entries will be full-length plays with a running time of at least an hour and must be original (adaptations will not be accepted), unproduced and unperformed.

Gareth Machin, artistic director of Salisbury Playhouse, said, “original drama lies at the heart of our artistic vision and we are constantly looking at ways to bring South West stories and voices on to our stages. This competition is a fantastic opportunity for us to introduce a new talent to our audience and to continue reflecting the distinctive perspective of our region”.

Theatre Fest West, to be held in February 2017, will feature rehearsed readings of all shortlisted plays.

Following a period of research and development at Salisbury Playhouse, a winning script will be selected, the writer receiving a cash prize of £2,000.

The play will be further developed and will receive a full production at Salisbury Playhouse.

Entries must be received by 9AM on 3 October. Submission guidelines can be found at the Artist Development section of the Salisbury Playhouse web site.
