When it was announced that the theatre blog of journalist and critic Lyn Gardner was to be axed as a cost cutting exercise by The Guardian, the 'twittersphere' was incandescent with disapproval.

Salvation for the acclaimed and valued blog has come in the form of an associate editorship at industry newspaper The Stage in which role Ms Gardner will also pen a weekly column and in-depth features.

Additionally, Ms Gardner will have a place on the judging panels for The Stage 100, The Stage Awards, The Stage Debut Awards and The Stage Critic Search 2017.

It was further announced this week that Ms Gardner has been appointed a Master on the MA Dramatic Writing at Drama Centre London at Central Saint Martins, a course which aims to improve writing training.

Course leader Jennifer Tuckett has said, "we are delighted to welcome Lyn Gardner on board as one of our new Masters. I strongly feel that writer training needs to cover how reviewing and arts journalism works and we are really looking forward to exploring and developing this area with Lyn and are thrilled that Lyn is joining us."

Duties in this role include leading an event at London Writers Week.

Rob Drummer, artistic director of Boundless Theatre, Lisa Goldman, former artistic director of the Soho Theatre and author of The No Rules Handbook for Writers, and Marion Nancarrow, executive producer for BBC Radio Drama and who runs the BBC's International Radio Playwriting Competition, have also been named as new Masters.

Ms Gardner will continue to write for The Guardian in her capacity as theatre critic.
