The Royal Academy of Dance has launched series 6 of its Why Dance Matters podcast chaired by David Jays, Editor of Dance Gazette, featuring people from inside and outside of the dance industry including Australian Ballet Artistic Director David Hallberg, choreographer Wayne McGregor CBE, physicist Merritt Moore and Alice Oseman, whose Heartstopper series has its second season première on Netflix early August.

Jays said, “this season, David Hallberg speaks candidly about the highs and lows of his starry ballet career, and Wayne McGregor describes working with ABBA and other extraordinary artists. Endalyn Taylor in the US and Mitchell Rayner in Australia are helping young dancers find their voice, while as a new series of Heartstopper launches on Netflix, its creator Alice Oseman explains how dance has given them confidence.

"And if you have ever wondered about dancing in space, or with robots, you'll be fascinated to hear physicist-ballerina Merritt Moore. It's a wonderful mix of inspiring conversations.”

The new episodes are:

  1. David Hallberg, Artistic Director of Australian Ballet, released 13 July
  2. Merritt Moore, professional ballet dancer, academic and quantum physicist, released 20 July
  3. Wayne McGregor CBE, multi award-winning British choreographer and director, released 27 July
  4. Alice Oseman, award-winning author, illustrator and screenwriter, released 3 August
  5. Mitchell Rayner, professional dancer and RAD registered teacher, released 10 August
