A new 250-seat covered, open air theatre is being opened for summer season shows in Banstead, Surrey.

To be called The Lavender Theatre, the venue will host musicals and plays against a farmland setting, and the site offers a coffee bar, a full service glasshouse restaurant and picnic spaces.

The opening production is to be Irving Berlin’s Annie Get Your Gun which opens on 17 July.

This classic of musical theatre will be directed and choreographed by Simon Hardwick, who said, “the show will be a rip-roaring staging of the well-known Broadway musical in a very raw and kinetic production that evokes the energy of Buffalo Bill’s original touring celebrations of the Wild West. The Lavender Theatre will be a dream destination; an environment in which to enjoy a West End-standard production under a hazy summer sky.”

The Lavender Theatre has been co-founded by director Joe McNeice, who will be its artistic director, and Mayfield Lavender Farm owner Brendan Maye, and it will be managed by Lavender Productions Ltd. The venue can be reached by public transport from Epsom Downs station, with trains leaving London Victoria every 30 minutes.

Casting for Annie Get Your Gun and other season programming have not yet been announced.
