A new production of Alison Carr’s theatrical “pub quiz”, The Last Quiz Night On Earth, will open the spring 2025 season at Newcastle-under-Lyme’s New Vic Theatre.

The “ingenious” comedy drama will take advantage of the New Vic’s in-the-round space by inviting audience members to become regulars at The Four Horsemen pub, participating in the quiz alongside the characters themselves.

Director Anna Marsland said, “I’m so excited to be returning to the New Vic to direct this unique, interactive comedy about what’s important in life. We’re transforming the theatre into The Four Horsemen pub for the month of February and audiences are invited to join their hosts Kathy and Rav to play along live with a quiz during the show.

“Every night will be a different experience. Audiences can expect lots of laughter, characters you deeply care about and a fun chance to play along even if you’re not a pub quiz fanatic.”

Marsland directed David Greig’s The Strange Undoing of Prudencia Hart at the New Vic in 2019.

During The Last Quiz Night On Earth, a massive meteor is hurtling towards earth. Kathy, the eccentric landlady of The Four Horsemen, is determined to host the best—and last—quiz night in the pub’s history. When a lively group of regulars gather for one final round, it soon becomes clear that people are there for more than just the quiz, with secrets to reveal and confessions to make. Will disaster strike before the final question gets asked?

The cast comprises Lisa Gorgin, who played Carla in The Wasp by Morgan Lloyd Malcolm at London’s Jermyn Street Theatre in 2017, as pub landlady Kathy, Pria Kalsi as Fran, Ayan Philip as quizmaster Rav and Sam Redford who was Theseus in A Midsummer Nights Dream: A Play for the Nation for the Royal Shakespeare Company in 2016 as Bobby.

Designer is Peter Butler, sound designer is Russell Ditchfield, Daniella Beattie is lighting and projection designer, Jennifer Jackson is movement and intimacy director and Anji Carroll CDG is casting associate.

The Last Quiz Night on Earth will run at the New Vic from Saturday 8 February until Saturday 1 March.
