New voting scheme as WhatsOnStage Awards return

The WhatsOnStage Awards return next year with a revised system of nominations.

For this year's shows, the public can nominate two individuals for each of Best Performance in a Leading Role in a Musical, in a Leading Role in a Play, in a Supporting Role in a Musical and in a Supporting Role in a Play.

The window for nominations stays open until 26 November 2021 after which shortlists will be announced and the voting can begin (9 December).

The technical category shortlists will be selected by a panel of industry experts ahead of the public vote. Other categories include Best Off-West End Production, Best Regional Production and Best West End Show.

Any professional production opening between 27 November 2019 and 25 November 2021 is eligible for most categories. Best West End Show must have played a West End venue for at least 12 months up to 21 January 2022.

The winners in all categories will be announced at the awards concert.

The WhatsOnStage Awards will take place on 27 February in London.
