One of the many fun things about going to the theatre with friends or family is comparing notes afterwards.

In these days of social isolation, Nick Hern Books is providing an opportunity to share thoughts on a different contemporary play each week, with the added bonus of being able to put questions to the playwright.

The NHB Playgroup kicks off this week with Anna Jordan's Bruntwood Prize-winning play Yen.

This play was first seen at Royal Exchange Manchester in 2015 and then again in 2016 at the Royal Court Theatre, London.

Nick Hern Books is providing the scripts as a free downloadable ebook or through Issuu via a browser, both at no charge.

Each text will be available for seven days during which readers are encouraged to discuss the week's play using the hashtag #NHBPlaygroup on Twitter, and submit a question for the playwright by e-mail (at [email protected] by the end of Sunday).

NHB will record a Q&A with the writer which will be released on the following Wednesday.

A new script will become available each Wednesday of the coronavirus shutdown and will include work by James Fritz, Winsome Pinnock, Enda Walsh, Stef Smith and Ella Hickson, amongst others.

Those interested in joining the inaugural The NHB Playgroup may also like to listen to the 2013 BTG podcast from the ceremony in which Jordan was announced as the Bruntwood Prize winner, after which she and some of the judges spoke about the play.
