Northampton Royal and Derngate’s production of a play about the secret life of Shakespeare’s daughter, The Herbal Bed, has been nominated in the best touring production category in the UK Theatre Awards.

The Herbal Bed, written by Peter Wheelan, was directed by Royal and Derngate artistic director James Dacre. It was a co-production with English Touring Theatre and Rose Theatre Kingston. It opened in Northampton in February 2016 before going on a national tour.

Royal and Derngate’s chief executive Martin Sutherland commented, “we’re really proud of the recognition that our work is achieving, both locally and nationally. I’d like to take the opportunity to thank our co-producing partners and everyone who contributed to making this production such a success.”

The UK Theatre Awards 2016 will be presented on Sunday 9 October at a ceremony at London’s Guildhall.
