Northern Ballet, founded by Laverne Meyer as England’s first publicly funded ballet company outside London, will mark its 50th anniversary with three world premières, a one-off Anniversary Gala featuring guest stars and tours of the company’s best-loved productions.

Highlights of the anniversary programme include the world premières of Geisha, based on a true story, and Merlin, a magical Arthurian spectacle featuring illusions from the team behind Harry Potter & the Cursed Child.

The programme officially commences on 28 November 2019, fifty years since the Company's first recorded performance at the University Theatre, Manchester, with the launch of a digital archive.

David Nixon OBE, Artistic Director of Northern Ballet, said, “Northern Ballet is a truly extraordinary organisation and has endured so many challenges in its history to arrive, 50 years after its inception, as the successful, confident and innovative company that we are today.”
