That Day We Sang at Royal Exchange

Lancaster Castle’s resident professional theatre company Demi-paradise Productions performs Deck the Hall with Boughs of Holly at the venue from Thursday to Saturday.

A modern, urban take on the classic Hans Christian Andersen tale The Ugly Duckling, Duck! is performed at Z Arts in Manchester from Tuesday to December 23.

One of the best-loved musicals of all time, West Side Story, comes to the Palace Theatre, Manchester next week. Indeed the show owes a considerable debt to the city since its UK premiere performance there, in 1958, started to establish its reputation.

That Day We Sang—a play with music by Victoria Wood which premièred at Manchester International Festival two years ago, returns to the city until January 18. The show has been reinvented and re-orchestrated for the Royal Exchange’s unique space by Wood herself.

Love is in the air at Manchester’s Royal Northern College of Music when RNCM Opera presents Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore on dates through to next Saturday.

It’s Christmas Eve on Advent Avenue, and all of the children have been banished to the attic. In a performance that blurs the boundaries of the real and the imagined, Manchester’s Contact Young Actors Company reveal the future of Christmas.

The Adventure—an inventive interactive show for children which immerses its young audience in a detective mystery—runs in (and around) The Studio at Manchester’s Royal Exchange Theatre from Tuesday to December 21.
