The Scoop - London's Greek Amphitheatre on the banks of the Thames

The eleventh season of free theatre at London's Greek Amphitheatre sees two fully-staged productions inspired by the ancient Greek city of Thebes: Prince of Thebes and Oedipus and Antigone.

Prince of Thebes is written by Phil Willmott; using comedy, adventure, music and puppetry, it is an introduction to Oedipus as a young prince, suitable for family viewing. Later the same evening Sophocles' Oedipus and Antigone are combined to provide a look at the role destiny and the fate of the adult Oedipus and his children.

Oedipus and Antigone are presented in a new translation by Lisa Kuma. A STAGETEXT captioned performance of both shows may be seen on 22 August.

The Thebans Season runs until 1 September, with shows on Wednesdays to Sundays: Prince of Thebes at 6PM and Oedipus and Antigone at 8PM. This unique venue is on the banks of the Thames in More London and has seating for one thousand. Booking is not required and there is no charge.
