Theatre Royal Stratford East is reviving Joan Littlewood's landmark musical Oh What A Lovely War in 2014, one hundred years after the start of World War I.
The satirical, strongly anti–war show which featured an ensemble cast in Pierrot costumes and helmets and songs of the WWI period will be in its 50th anniversary year.
Award–winning theatre director and writer Terry Johnson directs this re–imagined version with a cast that includes Alice Bailey-Johnson, Ian Bartholomew, Oliver J Hembrough, Rebecca Howell, Tom Lorcan, Waterloo Road's Shaun Prendergast, award–winning theatre and television actress Caroline Quentin, Zoe Rainey, Kyle Redmond-Jones and writer and actor Michael Simkins.
Musical direction is by Mike Dixon, design is by Lez Brotherston and choreography by Lynne Page.
Oh What A Lovely War was devised by Theatre Workshop, Charles Chilton, Gerry Raffles and members of the original cast (title suggested by Ted Allen, military adviser Raymond Fletcher). It runs from 1 February to 15 March.
