Old Vic New Voices community theatre initiative

Old Vic New Voices, the talent development and community engagement branch of The Old Vic has revealed its programme of activities for the year.

It includes the provision of a new space in Clapham, south London, to be the home for the capital's largest community theatre company. Called, LAB, the space is also a facility offered free to participants developing work.

Old Vic New Voices will commission and mentor ten writers to create new full-length works as well as offering small Start Up funds for those in need of help at the developmental stage of a project. Free and reduced price tickets will continue to be available under the Community Access programme.

There is also a schedule of training for performers and teachers, and workshops and materials for schools.

Director of Old Vic New Voices Steve Winter said: “This year will be about theatrical match making. By offering space, money, commissions, mentoring and tickets we will be led rather than lead and hope that what comes out of the other end is authentic and needed.”
