Theatregoers will have the chance to buy pieces of theatrical history when Birmingham REP holds a one-off costume sale.

Costumes up for auction include Dorothy’s gingham dress from the theatre’s 2005 production of The Wizard of Oz, Lady Bracknell’s frock from the 2011 production of Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest and outfits from the REP’s production of Philip Pulman’s I Was a Rat in 2013. Shoes, hats, accessories and a selection of props will also go under the hammer.

All money raised from the sale will go towards the theatre’s REP First campaign which aims to raise £1 million towards staging new productions, offering more training opportunities and welcoming more participants and audiences than ever before.

Head of production Tomas Wright said, “we keep many items in store for future use. However, there’s only so much we can keep and having a big sale gives us a great opportunity to have a spring clear-out as well as raise money to invest in the theatre’s future.”

Head of fundraising Rachel Cranny added, “our costume and props sale will appeal to amateur dramatic societies, costume hire companies, schools and collectors of theatrical paraphernalia.”

The sale will take place at the REP on Saturday 7 April from 11AM until 5PM.
