Open East Festival marks one year since Olympic Opening Ceremony

A huge iron puppet taller than a double-decker bus stars in The Iron Man

Tickets are now on general sale for a weekend of music, food and theatre that marks a year since the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Called Open East Festival it is organised by The Barbican and Create London to provide an affordable family event.

Live music will be provided on two stages, children's shows and events have been programmed and there will also be pop-up performances for those enjoying the riverbanks and parklands. Amongst the outdoor entertainment is Graeae's The Iron Man based on Ted Hughes’s story and directed by Jenny Sealey, the Paralympic Games Opening Ceremony Co-Director. Lots of other events and a spectacular finale is promised on both nights.

International food and local beer is offered at 70 stalls by the Real Food Festival and the Ten Mile Beer Festival. Families may also picnic on the banks of the River Lea.

Open East Festival takes place in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park on 27 and 28 July.
