Pacific Overtures plays from 2 July at London's Union Theatre

The Union Theatre in South East London is to stage Sondheim's Pacific Overtures this summer.

Kabuki and Butoh–inspired, the musical tells the story of the West's invasion of Japan. It has music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim with a book by John Weidman and additional material by Hugh Wheeler.

Pacific Overtures will be directed by Michael Strassen, who has previously directed Assassins at the same venue. His recent production there, Billy, was nominated for both a Best Director Off-West End Award and Best Production Off-West End Award.

Pacific Overtures plays for a month from 2 July.
