“The strongest girl in the world”: Pippi Longstocking

The world première of the musical staging of children’s book Pippi Longstocking is to be the 2019 Made in Northampton Christmas show at the town’s Royal and Derngate.

Mike Akers is adapting the work from Astrid Lindgren’s books and there will be original music by Stu Barker. It will be directed by The Wardrobe Ensemble’s Jesse Jones and Helena Middleton who co-directed the devised piece Education, Education, Education for Royal and Derngate in 2017.

Celebrating nearly 75 years since Astrid Lindgren first conceived Pippi Longstocking as “the strongest girl in the world”, this première “promises an epic musical adventure set against a Northamptonshire backdrop that will be created especially for Christmas audiences”.

Pippi Longstocking will take to the Royal stage from Tuesday 10 until Tuesday 31 December 2019.
