The RSC and their 'pen pal' Cross have launched a second writing competition as part of the pen maker's sponsorship of the theatre's new writing programme.

Aimed at budding playwrights, the challenge is to write a 500-word scene which includes the line “Finally, you will pay for what you did to me". No other restrictions apply and the criteria in selecting the winning entry are: fresh new voice, dramatic writing, originality, inventive use of language and rhythm.

Entries should be submitted no later than Friday 30 November 2012 by e-mail to [email protected] or by post to Nicola Shepherd, A T Cross Ltd, Unit 14 Windmill Trading Estate, Thistle Road, Luton LU1 3XJ.

The winner, who will be announced in December, will receive an experience day with the RSC with a goody bag of RSC and Cross merchandise for each of five runners up.

The judging panel is led by Tanika Gupta whose new play, an RSC commission, The Empress, will receive its world première at The Swan Theatre as part of the Summer 2013 Season.

Competition details and terms and conditions can be found on the RSC web site.
