Belarus Free Theatre is an underground theatre company based in the Republic of Belarus, a former Soviet state which continues to operate under a regime widely recognised for its repression of human rights and freedom of expression.
BFT's work focuses on the abuses that take place in their country; they operate in secret under threat of harassment and persecution and their work is endorsed by Amnesty International and campaigning literary charity PEN.
The company is now hoping to raise £20,000 in order to bring their show Trash Cuisine, a piece that looks at torture and the death penalty, to the United Kingdom, spreading the message about the political issues that shape their daily lives.
