Showcase: pupils will create a routine to be performed before Into the Hoods: Remixed

Wolverhampton Grand Theatre and hip hop dance company ZooNation are to offer pupils the opportunity to work with professional choreographers.

The two companies have created an outreach scheme for Key Stage 4 students at 12 schools. They will develop and present their own showcase at the Grand in January 2016.

Afterwards chosen dancers will create a routine choreographed by ZooNation which will be performed on the Grand stage before the opening show of Into the Hoods: Remixed.

The original production Into the Hoods premièred at the Peacock Theatre, London in 2006 and was performed at the Novello Theatre in 2008. It became both the first hip hop dance show to open in the West End and the longest-running dance show in the West End’s history.

The show won the Theatregoers’ Choice award for best ensemble performance and ZooNation’s founder Kate Prince was nominated for an Olivier Award for best theatre choreographer.

The students’ showcase takes to the Grand stage on Wednesday 27 January, with Into the Hoods: Remixed being presented from Thursday 25 until Saturday 27 February.
