In the continuing collaboration between the RSC and US theatre makers, Stratford-upon-Avon, New York and Miami will all be home to a new production of Antony and Cleopatra in which the original text has been stripped down, the scenes re–ordered and the setting moved to the eighteenth century Haitian Revolution against the French.

These changes come from the pen of Tarell Alvin McCraney, RSC writer in residence in 2010, at the behest of Michael Boyd, then RSC Artistic Director.

Casting for the play will be conducted on both sides of the pond providing a company of UK and US performers.

Antony and Cleopatra will premiere at the Swan Theatre in November 2013, before travelling to the Gusman Center for the Performing Arts in Miami and then The Public Theater’s Anspacher Theater in Manhattan.
