The Royal Shakespeare Company is to hold two relaxed performances of Matilda the Musical, one at London’s Cambridge Theatre and the other at Birmingham Hippodrome.
The National Autistic Society and Mousetrap Theatre Projects will work with the RSC, offering full access to the theatres for people with autism and learning disabilities and their families.
Elements of the production will be adapted to reduce anxiety or stress. Lighting and sound levels will be adjusted to soften their impact.
Audience members are free to make noise and move about the auditorium without restriction. Theatre staff, crew and company members receive training in advance to anticipate a wide range of different audience needs.
The relaxed performances will be at Cambridge Theatre on Sunday 10 June at 3PM and at Birmingham Hippodrome during the show’s tour on Thursday 19 July at 2PM.
