The vision of arts campaigner, writer and Tamasha artistic director, Fin Kennedy, Schoolwrights is a set of seven short plays produced from an exciting collaboration between four London schools and five professional playwrights.
Three years in the making, this is a pilot project that Kennedy hopes to expand regionally supporting schools as training bases for future generations of playwrights.
Each of the seven plays lasts roughly 20 minutes and is performed by the young people who helped create the series with emerging professional playwrights Alia Bano, Rex Obano, Morna Regan, Jane Wainwright and Abi Zakarian.
Schoolwrights is a co-production between Tamasha, OffWestEnd.com, Soho Theatre and Mulberry School for Girls and is supported by the Wedge Trust, the Writers’ Guild Foundation, the Herbert Smith Trust, the Mackintosh Foundation, Tamasha Theatre Company, Bill & Nini Aldridge, the Steven Prevezer Trust and Arts Council England.
Performances take place on 21 June at Rich Mix Bethnal Green Road London E1 and on 23 June at Soho Theatre Dean Street London W1.
