The Other Room has launched New Page, an initiative to create partnerships with writers associated with Wales.

The team behind this 45-seat venue, Cardiff’s first pub theatre, would like to receive scripts or extracts of full-length plays and shows, poems and short stories from Welsh writers or Wales-trained or -based writers.

Participants need have no previous writing experience and submissions can be in Welsh and/or English language. Feedback will be offered to all the shortlisted writers.

The aim of the New Page project is to find and develop the work of Wales’ writers and the venue will be engaging locally with marginalised communities and with people with protected characteristics to encourage submissions from this cohort.

Yasmin Begum, The Other Room's community engagement officer, said, “New Page is a groundbreaking initiative based in Cardiff to support writers and the creation of new work. We are thrilled to work with different communities and community members to engage writers to positively impact the arts sector and promote equality, inclusion and diversity.

"We will be taking an innovative and intersectional approach to source written work from across Wales and beyond in the medium of English and Welsh. We’re really excited to be working with such a broad range of readers and hopefully start the beginning of new working relationships with writers as we offer support and guidance.”

Submissions will be accepted until 4 October.
