Simon Callow to receive Outstanding Contribution to British Theatre Award

The Stage Award for Outstanding Contribution to British Theatre this year recognises Simon Callow CBE.

Well known as an actor, writer and theatre director, London–born Callow trained at the Drama Centre and subsequently worked with the Royal Shakespeare Company, the National Theatre and the Royal Court, as well as appearing in many West End productions and nationally on tour.

Amongst his one-man plays are The Importance of Being Oscar, The Mystery of Charles Dickens and Inside Wagner’s Head.

Callow's directorial credits include Shirley Valentine, Single Spies, Carmen Jones, and The Magic Flute. He is a prolific writer and biographer. In addition to his memoir My Life in Pieces he has written about Charles Laughton, Charles Dickens and Orson Welles.
