Torrential demand: Singin' in the Rain is to have an extra matinée at Birmingham Hippodrome

Birmingham Hippodrome has added a matinée to the Chichester Festival Theatre production of Singin’ in the Rain because of demand for tickets.

Rob Macpherson, the Hippodrome’s director of marketing and development, says, “Singin’ in the Rain is one of musical theatre’s classic masterpieces and it’s great to see the show is as popular now as it’s ever been.

“Due to a downpour of public demand, we’re pleased to announce an extra matinée to allow as many people of Birmingham the chance to dig out their umbrellas and join us in the days of Hollywood gone by.”

This new production is directed by Jonathan Church who was artistic director of Birmingham REP from 2001-6.

Maxwell Caulfield plays studio boss RF Simpson, while Faye Tozer is Lina Lamont, James Leece is Don Lockwood, Amy Ellen Richardson plays Kathy Selden and Stephane Anelli is Cosmo Brown.

Singin’ in the Rain runs at Birmingham Hippodrome from Tuesday 18 March until Saturday 5 April, with the extra matinée on Friday 21 March at 2PM.
