Marking its tenth year, three-day festival of hip hop dance theatre Breakin’ Convention has an anniversary programme covering a decade of hip hop dance from around the globe.

New works have been commissioned from ten companies, all of which will receive their world premières during the festival, an event that also marks the contribution of UK practitioners with a special session on the last night.

A mix of new and established acts, there will be performances from, amongst others, home–grown young talent 10Tens, a new company of 10 ten-year-olds, disabled dance group ILL-Abilities (international) and Grounded, the UK’s first all-female crew. There is also a programme of foyer events, workshops, DJs, freestyle sessions and live aerosol art.

For the first time, Breakin’ Convention will tour overseas, visiting the Apollo Theater, Harlem in June.

Breakin’ Convention is curated by Sadler’s Wells Associate Artist Jonzi D; the event runs over the first May Bank Holiday from 4 to 6 May.
