Room on the Broom written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler – one of the many stories delivered by bike across Scotland

Scottish stage and screen actor Tam Dean Burn is to tour Scotland reading Julia Donaldson's books.

Accompanied by Andy Alston on accordion and Emma Schad on flute, Tam Dean Burn hopes to read all 195 of Donaldson's books, visiting all the local authorities across Scotland, travelling principally by bicycle.

One of the UK's most successful authors, Julia Donaldson has written many prize–winning stories including The Gruffalo and Room on the Broom.

Julia Donaldson said, “I feel really honoured that my stories, songs and plays are going to be performed as part of the cultural celebrations for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. I'm full of admiration for Tam Dean Burn's enterprise and energy, and hope to catch up with him at some point along the story trail”

All events are free with a complimentary copy of one of Julia Donaldson’s books. A nursery and primary school's resource pack will be available for free download. The tour is part of the Glasgow 2014 cultural programme.

The Books on a Bike web site will be available shortly.
