The Stage Awards 2023

Subscribers to industry publication The Stage are now able to nominate candidates for the 2023 Awards.

Organisations and individuals who subscribe to The Stage may self-nominate and/or nominate others for work in the period December 2021 to November 2022 across all categories (except for The Unsung Hero category where self-nomination is not permitted).

Alistair Smith, editor at The Stage said, “The Stage Awards are the only major theatre awards that recognise the achievements of the whole of the British performing arts industry. Every year, the judges look forward to reading submissions from companies across the UK—we are always impressed by the extraordinary work being undertaken by theatremakers at all scales and in all parts of the country.

"Last year's winners ranged from the National Theatre's screen version of Romeo and Juliet, to Company Three’s community youth project When This is Over, to a celebration of the amazing contribution of understudies and covers nationwide during the pandemic.

"As the sector builds back after a few difficult years, we look forward to championing even more great work taking place up and down the country and celebrating excellence in British theatre.”

There are nine Award categories:

  • Theatre of the Year
  • Fringe Theatre of the Year
  • Producer of the Year
  • Theatre Building of the Year
  • Innovation Award
  • International Award
  • Digital Project of the Year
  • Community Project of the Year
  • Unsung Hero

A judging panel will assess all nominations using a number of criteria in consultation with a group of industry experts.

The window for nominations closes at 12PM on 18 November, the shortlist will be revealed on 15 December and the winners will be announced at an awards ceremony to be held on 30 January.
