“Licence to create”: Swiss Family Robinson

A new, comic re-telling of Swiss Family Robinson is to be the 2019 Christmas show at Northamptonshire theatre The Core at Corby Cube.

Comedy theatre company New Old Friends, whose show Crimes on the Nile is on tour until May, will create Swiss Family Robinson, which will be directed by James Farrell. As with most New Old Friends productions, there will be a cast of four.

The company’s artistic producer Heather Westwell said, “we’re delighted to be working with The Core at Corby Cube and couldn’t be more excited about the way we plan on presenting this beloved family story in a completely new light.

“The Swiss Family Robinson have to engage every ounce of creativity to survive on the island and this co-production revels in that licence to create. It should be a hilarious treat for all ages.”

The Core’s director Joe Flavin added “we’re absolutely thrilled to have New Old Friends with us for Christmas 2019. The company’s madcap and hilarious comedic style has delighted Corby audiences with their recent tours to The Core of Crimes Under the Sun and Crimes on the Nile.

“This year we set sail on the high seas with New Old Friends to bring a real sense of wonder and adventure to Corby this Christmas.”

Swiss Family Robinson can be seen at The Core from Friday 6 until Sunday 29 December.
