Flare Path writer, Terence Rattigan, is honoured with playwriting award

A new writing award is to be launched later this month in honour of playwright Terence Rattigan.

The winner, whose work will be produced professionally, is to be selected by David Suchet, Julian Fellowes, Thea Sharrock and Dan Rebellato.

Suchet, who will host the announcement event on 26 January, said, "I'm thrilled that the Terence Rattigan Society is offering an award for a new play in his name. As one of this country's true masters of the dramatist's craft, it is a fitting tribute to his enormous contribution to the theatre".

The popularity of Rattigan’s play Flare Path continues with a touring production extending its schedule.

Flare Path is based on Rattigan’s World War II experiences. The play opens at The Connaught Theatre Worthing on 27 January with a cast led by Graham Seed as Squadron Leader Swanson, Lynden Edwards as Peter Kyle and Hedydd Dylan as Patricia Graham.

Also in the cast are former Eastenders actor Charlie Hawkins, Daniel Fraser and Audrey Palmer.
