National Theatre of Scotland's Five Minute Theatre Show takes on the referendum

A number of significant events are taking place in Scotland in 2014 making it a momentous year for the area.

Top amongst them is the independence referendum which informs the return of the National Theatre of Scotland's Five Minute Theatre Show.

The Great Yes, No, Don’t Know, Five Minute Theatre Show will involve 840 performers and participants across eight countries and see 180 Five Minute Theatre pieces broadcast live online.

It is a 24-hour event on 23/24 June with micro theatre shows all touching on some aspect of independence performed in front of live audiences across Scotland and the UK. Audiences watching events live-streamed will be able to use handheld devices as well as desktop computers.

The Great Yes, No, Don’t Know, Show forms part of the National Theatre of Scotland’s Dear Scotland 2014 season of theatre, debate and celebration. Five Minute Theatre was first staged as part of the Theatre's fifth anniversary events. In 2012 it received the Critics’ Awards for Theatre in Scotland Award for Best Technical Presentation.

This massive project is co–curated by playwright and director David Greig and writer, actor and producer David MacLennan, who said, "We are delighted that the invitation to take part in this imaginative and exciting show has provoked such a huge and enthusiastic response.

"The submissions reflect every possible view in the referendum debate and put together they are going to make a thoughtful, passionate, provocative and highly entertaining variety show: theatre of the people, by the people, for the people."

Tickets for live events are not yet on sale but further information is available at Five Minute Theatre.
