Next year is a special one for The King's Head Theatre as it celebrates 45 years since opening as London's first pub theatre since Shakespeare's time.

The year's opening season has been revealed. It includes Irvine Welsh's Trainspotting which will be produced with a 9-strong Edinburgh cast marking its 21st anniversary and marking the 70th anniversary of VE Day is Mrs Roosevelt Flies To London.

Amongst the other treats on offer is the stage première of Shock Treatment, the equal/sequel to cult hit The Rocky Horror Picture Show by Richard O'Brien, who says of it, “Shock Treatment has been waiting patiently in the wings for a stage première since the film was released in 1981.

"Just as Rocky began life upstairs at the Royal Court, it seems a perfect fit for Shock Treatment to start its stage life in the effervescent atmosphere of the astounding King's Head Theatre.”

There is a new play to be directed by Mike Bradwell, The Flannelettes by Richard Cameron, based on the life of actress Louise Brooks, and a new adaptation of the classic Victorian satire The Diary Of A Nobody.

  • The American Venus opening on 8 July
