The New Wolsey Theatre celebrates 15 years

February 2001 saw the reopening of the New Wolsey Theatre, Ipswich with a production of Sweeney Todd.

Its 15th anniversary season is also headlined by a musical, this time The Last Five Years by Jason Robert Brown which charts a relationship telling his story from the start and her story backwards from its ending.

The two–hander stars Katie Birtill, who was at The New Wolsey recently in the title role of Sweet Charity; the venue's artistic director Peter Rowe will direct.

The season wouldn't be complete without a production of Sweeney Todd which this time is presented by the New Wolsey Young Company directed by associate director Rob Salmon.

Also in the programme for the spring is Gogol’s The Government Inspector touring nationally from Birmingham Repertory Theatre, as is Eclipse Theatre's A Raisin In The Sun, Birdsong Productions Shadowlands and Laila: The Musical.

For younger audiences, there is Wrong Crowd and Soho Theatre’s play without words Kite, Roald Dahl’s James And The Giant Peach from Sell A Door Theatre Company and the New Wolsey Theatre’s Creative Learning team will tour primary schools with a new show written and directed by Rob Salmon, Alfie Strange: Trained Timed Travellers Only.
