Resolution Review

Resolution Review offers aspiring dance writers the chance to see and review some of the UK’s most promising dance companies, to be mentored by a professional dance critic and to have their reviews published as part of an online platform which complements the Resolution season of performance at The Place.

Now in its 27th year, Resolution Festival for new dance and emerging choreographers working across a broad range of styles including hip-hop, Indian classical dance, ballet, circus, capoeira, physical theatre and contemporary will run across six weeks from Friday 8 January to Friday 19 February 2016 (excluding the 1st week of February), each night showcasing three new works in The Place’s theatre.

It provides critical responses to every performance in the season and enables the sharing of ideas around writing about performance. Each show receives two reviews, from the professional critic and the aspiring writer. Each writer is requested to commit to a minimum of three reviews across the season.

Previous participants in this programme have gone on to be regular writers for publications including Time Out, London Dance, Exeunt, Dance Tabs and Dancing Times and several have set up their own successful blogs.

Applicants don’t need to be technical dance experts, but should be skilled wordsmiths with a passion for watching and writing about performance. The successful applicants will be mentored by the team of professionals and will have access to a seminar providing opportunities to ask questions around current working practices.

To apply, send a sample dance review (maximum 300 words) by Monday 16 November 2015 to Sorcha Hunter, Press and Media Manager.

Please note CVs are not accepted and will be discarded if received.
